Wellington Phoenix failed to get back to winning when Western Sydney Wanderers held them to a 1-1 draw in their matchup last Saturday.

After a dull first half, the match picked up shortly after the hour mark when Bozhidar Kraev scored, and it continued to move forward until Yeni N’Gbakoto scored in the 79th to secure a share of the points.

Prior to that, on November 6, the Phoenix defeated Macarthur 4-1 at home for their first victory of the year before falling to Western United 3-2 a week later.

While Ufuk Talay’s team has been strong in attack, they have had trouble establishing themselves at the back of the field, where they currently have the second-worst record in the league with 13 goals allowed in seven games, just behind Western United (18).

With seven points from a possible 21, Wellington Phoenix are currently ranked ninth in the A-League standings, but if they earn all three points this weekend, they could catch up to Sydney FC in fourth place on points.

While Brisbane Roar held Adelaide United to a 1-1 draw at the Kayo Stadium last Friday, Adelaide United was unable to record their fourth straight league victory.

After a lacklustre first half, 25-year-old forward George Blackwood gave the guests the lead with a goal in the 72nd minute, but Jay O’Shea tied the score from the spot in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

However, Carl Veart’s team enters the weekend unbeaten in their previous five games, having recorded three victories and two ties since being defeated 2-0 by Macarthur on October 16.

In their first seven games, Adelaide United won three, drew three, and lost just one, amassing 12 points and occupying third place in the league standings, four points behind Melbourne City.

The Reds will be backing themselves to return to winning ways this weekend as they take on a Wellington Phoenix side against whom they are unbeaten in 16 of the last 20 meetings between the teams, claiming eight wins and eight draws since February 2012.
